Muloobinba Aboriginal Corporation

Muloobinba Aboriginal Corporation has been established since 1991. The organisation was formed to provide a support service to Aboriginal families and individuals in the Newcastle and surrounding Local Government Areas. Muloobinba is a not for profit, community based organisation that is specific to the needs to Aboriginal individuals and families


The word “Muloobinba” comes from the Awabakal language and means “Newcastle” and “Place of Sea Fern”

Muloobinba is centrally located to public transport such as buses and trains. It is just a few short kilometres from the city Centre.

Muloobinba is committed to:

  • A quality and supportive service
  • Building partnerships to enhance service delivery for families and individuals in the community
  • Providing programs that are culturally appropriate and sensitive to the needs of our clients

In 2010  Muloobinba received additional funding for Family and Parenting Support to assist Aboriginal Childcare & Families in the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie Local Government Areas.

With the reforms to 2011 to the Community Services Grants Program, now known as Early Intervention and Placement Prevention. Muloobinba was successful in securing additional funds for Intense Family Support, a program that offer support to Aboriginal families that have Risk of Significant Harm in Port Stephens and surrounding areas.

To further enhance service delivery and the ability to offer additional services, Muloobinba secured the tender for the Childrens Service at Nikinpa Aboriginal Child & Family Centre in 2013 and commenced Childcare services ins April 2014.

Further to this in February 2014, Muloobinba also received funding to provide the Centre Management at Nikinpa which is a community hub for  a wide variety of supports to the Aboriginal Community.

Also in 2013 Muloobinba commence the accreditation process with the NSW Childrens Guardian to provide Out of Home Care Service to the communities of the Hunter Region. In June 2014 Muloobinba was successful in securing provision accreditation with the Children’s Guardian and took on Case Management of Aboriginal children in October 2014, this program is known as Cultural Journeyz.
