Aboriginal Early Links

The Aboriginal Early Links Program provides support to families caring for child/ren between the ages of 0-8 who is suspected of having a disability or developmental delay. The Aboriginal Early Links program covers Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Local Government Areas. The maximum support period is 12 months per family.

The Early Links Coordinator works individually with each family to develop a family
support plan that idenfies the families strengths and needs, offering the following supports:

  •  Information about the Childs diagnosis, therapy options, available funding and resources, local services
  • Emotional support
  •  Support to identify and make use of natural supports
  • Assistance to build social connections and support
  • Support to build connecons to community, mainstream and specialist service referrals
  •  Support to adjust to their Childs diagnosis
  • Support to establish new routines
  • Support with parent-child relationships
  • Opportunies to build strength and capacity
  • Connection to community, mainstream and specialist services
  • Education Support
  • Engage families in the pre-diagnosis stage and contine to support them until they establish appropriate supports
